Thinking Out Loud: Rest & Airports

Oh hey everyone! I’ve been missing from the blog world for the past week and it’s truly been a nice break. So let’s try to catch up by linking up with Thinking Out Loud!

Thinking-Out-Loud

  • Coffee and kitties are my favorite way to start my morning!photo(153)
  • In just a few hours I go into the dentist office and get my wisdom teeth taken out. I’m not excited about it, but I know I need to stop putting it off. Bring on the chipmunk cheeks!
  • While I’ve been away I was able to truly rest. I think my body needed and enjoyed a break from Crossfit. It was also refreshing for my mind to get away to a new place and not have the stress and worries that fill my mind while at home. And it’s always nice to spend time with people who fill you with happiness.Jul 31 rest week
  • Airports are one of the most fascinating places to me. I absolutely love being in the airport. I love looking at all the people. Where are they going? What are they doing? Who are they? You see the true colors of people when they are dealing with delays and cancelled flights. After a evening filled with delays I was thankful to finally get home.jul 31 rain airport
  • A rainy day afternoon/night in the airport made me crave warm, savory foods. I had a cappuccino from Starbucks with a cinnamon chip scone. I forget how good cappuccinos are. I was also so thankful that I had chosen to wear skinny jeans and bring a hoodie since I was sitting in a cold place for a long time!Jul 31 Starbucks
  • Yesterday was my last Crossfit workout at the box I’ve been going to all summer. Next week I’ll return to school and will be trying out a new box once my wisdom teeth heal up. Yesterday’s workout was fun and I really enjoyed it. For 20 minutes we worked on gymnastics moves that we wanted to improve on. Many of us worked on handstands and it was a lot of fun. I definitely improved and got more okay with getting up on the wall. The WOD: 3 rounds of 3 min: 500 meter row then wall balls until time ran out. My quads were so tired!Jul 31 crossfit
  • It’s always nice to catch up with you old friends from home. It’s neat how we can be at completely different stages of our lives, but still can talk about anything.
  • I know I’ve been saying I’m moving to a new blog and I promise it’s happening soon. The design is almost done and I’m thinking by next week it’ll be complete! Eeeek! I cannot wait!
  • I can’t believe my summer is basically over. All of a sudden last week was my last time working with my Dad since I’ll be out of commission this weekend due to my wisdom teeth. But I’m ready to get my final semester of school started. Jul 31 sprinkler and dad

That’s all for today!

WIAW: Albuquerque Edition

Buenos dias! Good morning! Today for What I Ate Wednesday I’m sharing the food I ate while on a weekend trip to Albuquerque to visit my girlfriends.

Peas and Crayons

I arrived in the 505 on Friday afternoon with an hour of time to kill before my friend got off work. So I went to Uptown shopping center which is right off the Interstate. I spent my time drooling over stores like Lululemon and Anthropologie. I also hit up the Trader Joes since I live no where close to one. I only got items that weren’t fresh nor would melt in my vehicle, so my choices were limited.

I picked up some Cookie Butter, coconut cookies, and coconut oil. I haven’t tried cookie butter before and wow is that stuff good! I don’t even know how to describe the taste.

For dinner we wanted something light and quick before we went out and so we decided upon Chipotle. When we walked in the line went through about half the building and I thought that was long. Supposedly it’s common for the line to be out the door because it’s one of the few in Albuquerque.

Our evening festivities began at Zacatecas with some margaritas and then the night rolled on from there!

After a night out at Nob Hill, we were ready for breakfast the next morning. If you are familiar with Albuquerque then you would know that the Frontier is a must-eat place at some point if you visit.

One of my ABQ girlfriends suggested we all try a cinnamon roll and man was I glad she told me to do that. So I had a cinnamon roll along with my breakfast burrito filled with eggs, hashbrowns, and green chile. I was one happy girl after breakfast.

Saturday we spent the day shopping at the mall and went to Uptown again. I had been wanting to find a kimono cover up with a cute print and I finally did at Charlotte Russe! At Uptown we into Francesca’s and I came out with this wild tribal print shirt and a faded gold monogram S necklace. I don’t know what got into me. Nothing I bought was black!

It was pretty hot in Albuquerque on Saturday so we grabbed some fraps at Starbucks. I got a mocha frap and a chocolate chip cookie. Definitely chocolate overload, but it sure helped us cool off. Next time I’ll choose one or the other.

After a full day of shopping and a pick-me-up at Starbucks. We were ravenously awaiting our dinner at PF Changs. Of course all 5 of us had to shower and get ready so by the time we finally arrived none of us were evening talking to each other due to being so hangry! And I didn’t get any pictures of the food because once it was out we inhaled it.

We ordered California Crab sushi, Spicy Tuna sushi, and split the Spicy Chicken and Mongolian beef entrees with rice. We were still hungry after dividing all of that up between the 5 of us, so another California Crab sushi appetizer was ordered. That finally satisfied us.

After another night out on the town we were ready for breakfast on Sunday morning. We all agreed on Weck’s.

I ordered the papas bowl with scrambled egg, hashbrowns, and green chile. They offered peanut butter with your pancakes so of course I had to get a pancake too. Too say I was stuffed after breakfast is being modest. The papas bowl was soooo good and the green chile was perfect! The pancake on the other hand was so-so. Good, but not life changing.

The leftover hashbrowns made an appearance on Monday morning at home for my breakfast with some sauasage and scrambled egg. Best breakfast I’ve made at home in a long time!

And that’s all I have for y’all today on my weekend eats in Albuquerque!

Do you like green chile? What have you been eating lately?

You Need Other People

This weekend I went to Albuquerque for a weekend reunion with a group of my best friends. I hadn’t seen these girls since graduation in May, so it was a much needed girls weekend. The entire time I was there I was filled with happiness and joy from being in the presence of my best friends again.

I saw this quote on my Pinterest last night that I had pinned several weeks ago and instantly the writing wheels in my head started spinning.

better things ..

You will need other people.

I need other people. I need my best friends.

As much as I enjoy my alone time. As much as I think I am so introverted and quiet. As independent as I think I am. I need other people.

My best friends have made several appearances throughout my blog posts. From sorority events to trips to Vegas, they have been an ever present group in my life for almost 5 years now. Since we are all entering new stages of our friendship because we all won’t be living in the same town anymore, our friendship will look differently. But that quote has made me reflect on why they are in my life and why I know they will continue to be.

You need people in your life who you trust.

Who know you and your ways and your characteristics.

Who you can have deep belly laughs with.

…understand your fears and questions about the future.

….you can excitedly plan and dream about the future with.

…can tell you that those shoes really aren’t that cute.

…can see you without your makeup and messy hair and still love you.

…can keep you accountable with your “healthy eating.”

…can drag you to the gym and give you a kick butt workout.

…but will indulge on the weekends with you on fatty foods and sugary drinks.

…will tell you that that guy is a jerk and doesn’t deserve you.

…you can show your most embarrassing dance moves to and they still think you’re cool.

…sing “Fancy” in the car together without anyone judging one others singing/rapping voices.

…will tell you that what you said was rude.

…you can share your happiest moments with or you not-so-happy ones.

…you can plan your next trips to see each other and know that no one will find an excuse to back out.

…you can talk about embarrassing things with and it’s not awkward.

…share frustrations with about work or school or your uncooperative hair.

…will yell at you while you’re driving but you know they’re just looking out for you.

…you can be “hangry”  (hungry+angry) with and they’ll know your shortness isn’t intentional.

…you can look at each other and think “wow. my friends are beautiful” because you truly believe that.

…keep you inspired to be a better person than you were yesterday.

…will call 911 if you don’t make it out of the sketchy Wal-Mart in 10 minutes.

…who won’t talk mad crap about you to someone else.

As badly as I wished I was just going home yesterday afternoon to do homework, and I would see them at the sorority house for lunch today it’ll never be that way again.

As we get older and our lives start changing and becoming more separate, our friendship will change along the way. But I know it will be there. It will be there in 8 years when we celebrate our year of turning 30. Or when we’re at a baby shower for the first baby in our group. Or as we watch each other get married. Or when one of us gets the new job she had been wanting. Because we are Amigas por vida! (friends for life)

I watch how my Mom has her certain close friends in her life and how important they are to her. Of course she has my Dad and my sister and I, but she needs other people as well. She needs her friend who she can call and talk about decorating with and discuss the decisions their children are making.

We need other people in our lives. People who know us. People who make us better people and you know will be there for you no matter the situation you face. And you have to be that person for other people as well. It’s not just a one way street.

Personally, I know that my friends sharpen me and that I sharpen my friends as this verse from the bible says: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17. Now if my friends were leading me down the wrong path or causing me to “stumble” I probably wouldn’t be writing this post, but that’s not the case.

Sometimes I would like to apologize for being so reflective and dramatic about things like this, but I’m not. Because this is what I think and this is how I feel and someday I’ll look back on this post and will be flooded with memories and joy. And I’ll be able to see how true things played out or how differently they did.
