Thinking Out Loud: Rest & Airports

Oh hey everyone! I’ve been missing from the blog world for the past week and it’s truly been a nice break. So let’s try to catch up by linking up with Thinking Out Loud!

Thinking-Out-Loud

  • Coffee and kitties are my favorite way to start my morning!photo(153)
  • In just a few hours I go into the dentist office and get my wisdom teeth taken out. I’m not excited about it, but I know I need to stop putting it off. Bring on the chipmunk cheeks!
  • While I’ve been away I was able to truly rest. I think my body needed and enjoyed a break from Crossfit. It was also refreshing for my mind to get away to a new place and not have the stress and worries that fill my mind while at home. And it’s always nice to spend time with people who fill you with happiness.Jul 31 rest week
  • Airports are one of the most fascinating places to me. I absolutely love being in the airport. I love looking at all the people. Where are they going? What are they doing? Who are they? You see the true colors of people when they are dealing with delays and cancelled flights. After a evening filled with delays I was thankful to finally get home.jul 31 rain airport
  • A rainy day afternoon/night in the airport made me crave warm, savory foods. I had a cappuccino from Starbucks with a cinnamon chip scone. I forget how good cappuccinos are. I was also so thankful that I had chosen to wear skinny jeans and bring a hoodie since I was sitting in a cold place for a long time!Jul 31 Starbucks
  • Yesterday was my last Crossfit workout at the box I’ve been going to all summer. Next week I’ll return to school and will be trying out a new box once my wisdom teeth heal up. Yesterday’s workout was fun and I really enjoyed it. For 20 minutes we worked on gymnastics moves that we wanted to improve on. Many of us worked on handstands and it was a lot of fun. I definitely improved and got more okay with getting up on the wall. The WOD: 3 rounds of 3 min: 500 meter row then wall balls until time ran out. My quads were so tired!Jul 31 crossfit
  • It’s always nice to catch up with you old friends from home. It’s neat how we can be at completely different stages of our lives, but still can talk about anything.
  • I know I’ve been saying I’m moving to a new blog and I promise it’s happening soon. The design is almost done and I’m thinking by next week it’ll be complete! Eeeek! I cannot wait!
  • I can’t believe my summer is basically over. All of a sudden last week was my last time working with my Dad since I’ll be out of commission this weekend due to my wisdom teeth. But I’m ready to get my final semester of school started. Jul 31 sprinkler and dad

Memorial Weekend ’14

As I’m sitting at home writing a blog post today I was a bit intimidated about what to write about since it is Memorial Day Weekend. While everyone is out having BBQs and playing yard games, many people today are without their loved ones. As I’ve gotten to know and spend time with some people this past year who are part of the military, my understanding and appreciation for what they do has been greatly deepened. They sacrifice and risk their lives for the freedom of our country, so that we are able to go on with our every day life here in America. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun and relaxation that comes with this holiday weekend and all the great shopping deals, but it’s something we should give more thought to than we typically do. That being said, I am grateful for those who have served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice. I also want to thank those who have served and currently do serve along with their families to fight for our freedom.

On a more lighter note, Memorial Day weekend is known for a time for everyone to break out their grills and spend time outside. But for my family I don’t remember us doing anything special for this holiday weekend and this weekend has been no different. Scrolling through my Instagram feed and Twitter, I see pictures and tweets about people who are going to a cook-out or pool party while I’m just here at home trying to entertain myself. I’m not complaining, though it may seem like it. I definitely enjoy having a weekend with nothing to do.

So here’s just a few pictures of what my weekend looked like:

It’s been raining here since Thursday night which has been a huge blessing. Our land has been incredibly dry.

Friday lunch in town at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Chicken enchiladas with green sauce.

We’ve been on pregnant cat watch and are expecting to have some new little kittens running around soon!

Saturday my Mom made French Toast for breakfast. French toast isn’t a normal breakfast food for our family, but it sure was tasty!

And this finally happened. My Mom and I went to a Crossfit fundamentals class on Saturday morning and we both fell in love with it. So this week we can start going to their normal classes. I’m super pumped to finally start doing Crossfit!

My family ate all the chocolate chip cookies I made last week in about two days, so I made some more on Saturday and enjoyed a few while watching Downton Abbey.

Sunday morning my grandpa got a load of calves in so we spent our morning branding and doctoring the calves. The best part of branding is when you’re finished and your grandma greets you with a yummy breakfast burrito!

Marley gets pretty lazy on Sunday afternoons. Actually Marley is lazy every day of the week.

And that’s about all for today! I’m hoping to go for a run in a bit, but it’s really thundering and sounding like it may rain again. I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day!

5 on a Rainy Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Here is my 5 for Friday.

1. I woke up in the middle of the night to hear rain pouring down on our roof outside my window. The sound and smell of rain will always be one of my favorites. We’ve been in desperate need of rain here in New Mexico. Being a farmer’s daughter adds another level of understanding to how important rain is. We need it to water our crops and our pastures, so we can feed the cattle we have. There are many other reasons why it is so important to us, but those are just a few. In a place where rain is scarce it’s always a welcomed resource and is received with thankful hearts.

2.  Protein Pancakes are my jam. After not having them for so long, I jump at every chance to make them for breakfast!

3. I’m going to a Crossfit fundamentals class on Saturday to learn the fundamentals for Crossfit and get a feel for if I want to do it for the summer. I’m a little nervous, but at the same time I’m excited and ready to get started!

4. This article and video. I died laughing at the article so read it for a laugh!

5. Planner & Spaces

I want this planner:

Desk space designed with this in mind:

And a living room with a neutral color scheme:

That’s all for today! As far as plans for Memorial Day weekend, I have absolutely zero. But it’s important to remember why we have Memorial Day weekend: to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

Do you like rain? What is something you are loving or doing this Friday?
