The Day I was a Pirate

Yesterday I was a pirate for the day.

Okay so I was really only a pirate for almost 3 hours, but still not many people can say that. It all began late Tuesday afternoon when I felt like there was something in my eye, but couldn’t find anything in it when I looked. It progressed from there and basically by the end of the night I was convinced I had pinkeye.

Bright early on Wednesday morning I woke up to find that I could only open one eye. This is where my practice being a pirate began. I proceeded to convince the other eye to open up with the help of a warm washrag. Then I made some coffee and got ready to head to the campus health center.

Long story short they numbed my eye, put dye in it, and saw it was all scratched up. Thankfully I didn’t have pinkeye. So they cleaned it up and some drops in then the nurse proceeded to put a patch on my eye.

Walking out of the health clinic and to my truck I couldn’t help but have a goofy smile on my face. Wearing an eye patch isn’t an everyday look for me. As you can see below I don’t look too impressed. It’s slightly embarrassing to post that picture, but it’s more humorous than embarrassing.

By the time I drove home and fixed oatmeal for breakfast my right eye was worn out. It’s crazy how much strength it takes for only one eye to do all the work. I was supposed to wear the patch for 2-3 hours so I used that as an excuse to take a long nap. When I woke up I was able to take it off, so after that I forfeited my right to be a pirate.

Though pirate life was good and fun while it lasted I definitely prefer my life as a normal person with two normal eyes.

So now that I’m almost back to normal here’s how my Thursday has started.

Leg day. Ouch. I’m going to be sore later. The bar is heavier than it looks I promise haha Don’t ask what’s going on with my hair. It was early and my hair just does what it wants.

I made oatmeal for breakfast with one egg white, almond milk, peanut butter, honey, cinnamon, raspberries, and blackberries.

Due to a new tv show obssession I had a spot of tea with my breakfast in my cup with a British flag.

Only today and Friday before the weekend is here again!! I hope everyone has a great day and doesn’t end up like this poor kitten:

I think he fell due to other not so natural causes.

Have a great day everyone!

Have you ever had to wear an eye-patch? How did you start your Thursday?

Home for the Weekend 2/23

Here’s just a recap of what I’ve been up to this past week before another week gets ahead of me!

1. Fitness

I’ve felt like I looked like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz walking around since Wednesday. My legs were super sore. I’m pretty sure it’s because at home when I workout my heaviest dumbbells are 10lbs each. So I would do squats and whatnot with 20lbs. In class this week we did barbell squats with I believe 65 lbs, Romanian deadlifts with 65 lbs,  and weighted lunges with 15lb dumbbells in each hand. That’s where I lay the blame.

This week we started doing our own workout programs and the one I’m doing has kicked my butt this week. Literally. My arms were dead on Monday from biceps and back. Tuesday was cardio and abs. Wednesday was leg day. Thursday was chest & tris. Friday was a quick 20 minute run with abs/core.

Someday I’ll share with you all what I’m doing, but be warned it’ll make you sore.

2. Friends

photo(42)

It seems like every week I mention my friends, but I honestly love them. They make me sooo happy and I’m extremely blessed to have such beautiful people in my life. I’ve been cherishing all the time I get to spend with them because sadly this is our last semester all together.

3. Family

photo(41)

I finally got to come home for the weekend! I got to bring my sorority little sister home with us for Zeta Days! It was neat showing her where I’m from and telling her about what my family does.

Saturday morning was Zeta Days, so I got to see some alumni from our chapter and meet some Zetas from this area.

That evening my family just went and watched some basketball.  I sat by this cutie for awhile Saturday night watching the games. She asked me sooo many questions!! Like what’s my favorite food. Favorite color. Favorite shoes. Favorite buildings. Favorite towns. Favorite prom dresses. What color were the prom dresses. What color heels do you have. You get the point. There’s tons of questions I didn’t even add. Little kids are always entertaining.

4. Food

I got to eat at my favorite place at home: Taco Box! Beef soft tacos is where it’s at.

For breakfast Sunday morning before we left my Mom made pancakes! She also tried the Pinterest recipe where you cook bananas in coconut oil and honey. They turned out to be really good, so I had some of those on top of my pancakes along with peanut butter and syrup.

5. Faith & Inspiration

This is mostly a reminder to myself as another week has begun, but it’s easy to get frustrated and annoyed with people. Instead I need to remember to be patient, kind, and loving.

And everyone knows those people who can only talk negatively about other people. I don’t necessarily have someone in mind, but throughout the week I hear a lot of things about other people that probably aren’t true and frankly aren’t any of my business. In my education class we call people who are negative all the time a “water buffalo.” I have no idea why, but it’s not appealing image and I definitely don’t want to be thought of as a water buffalo. Anyways I like to be around people who support me and who I can support in whatever they’re doing.

Have a marvelous Monday everyone and a great week!

What workout has made you sore lately? How do you act when you’re around a negative person?

Life Lately: Bagels & Skiing

There’s really no good reason I haven’t blogged lately except that life just happens and I just found myself wanting to do other things with my spare time than blog. Things like sleeping and eating.

1. Paleo

At the beginning of the year my Mom and I decided we were going to try this eating Paleo thing. For awhile we did pretty well at it. I know I haven’t addressed it in awhile because I haven’t really been sticking to it. Paleo is hard to be honest. Especially being in college which for me means I’m super busy all the time. I think if I had more time to cook then I could do it, but until then I try to eat Paleo some of the time.

2.  Banana Bread Bagels

Obviously bagels are not Paleo, so more evidence I haven’t stuck with it.

photo(36)

So while I was carousing the aisles at Wal-Mart the other day I spotted Thomas Banana Bread Bagels displayed on the end of an aisle. I was only sticking to shopping in the outer part of the food section and avoiding the aisles. I wasn’t even going to go down the bread section, but their product display totally seduced me.

photo(35)

I was a little skeptical at the idea of Banana Bread bagels, but they are soooo good!! I would have half of one with a green monster in the morning or after my workout class for a snack. They have a slight banana bread flavor and I love banana bread so I liked it. I always use peanut butter for things like that so peanut butter, honey, and banana was a common combination. I definitely recommend trying them out.

3. All the other food

Five Guys Burgers. Heaven in your mouth. My first bite was the type where you bite in and sigh as it just melts in your mouth. Well actually I did have to chew a bit, but you know what I mean. Their burgers are great and freakin huge!! They don’t skimp you on the fries either, I had enough for like 3 meals.

photo(33)

Best part of Valentine’s Day. Chocolate.

photo(34)

Reeses hearts are my favorite. I also got some Godiva chocolate that was great, because every piece had chocolate inside. I didn’t have to worry about biting into one and being grossed out by strawberry filling. That’s always a disappointing experience.

I was basically in a chocolate/food coma all weekend. It was great.

4. Skiing & Parents

My sister and I met my parents in Ruidoso on Friday for a little weekend get-away.

photo(32)

I love going to Ruidoso, it’s not my favorite New Mexico mountain town, but it’s nice because it’s super close for us.

We went skiing on Saturday. Despite my expectations of skiing on grass and rocks, the snow was pretty decent! We had a blast and were worn out at the end of the day. Instead of shredding the nar nar we were shredding some slush. The snow was a little slushie around the lift lines, but we survived it.

Take note of the non-snowy backgrounds in the picture below. That’s why I was worried about there being enough snow.

photo(30)

I come from a family of dare devils and risk takers. We only ski black diamonds.

photo(31)

I’m totally kidding about that. My parents are great skiers and they taught both me and my sister to ski. We’re almost as good as they are haha they really did teach us everything we know about skiing.

photo(29)

Sunday we ate breakfast at Jorge’s which was pretty great.

Then we just went shopping downtown the rest of the day until it was time to part ways.

A weekend away from this college town was exactly what I needed. I always enjoy seeing my parents too because it’s just refreshing and rejuvenating. I’m going home this weekend so it’ll be another one to spend with my parents at one of my favorite places in the world.

And now I’ll leave you with this thought. Have a great evening!!
