Five For Friday: Spring Break & Kittens

Hello errrbody! I’m soooo happy it’s Friday. This week went by fast, but I’m ready for the weekend. So here’s 5 things I want to share for Friday!

1. Spring Breakkkkkk

Guess where I’m going with 12 of my closest sorority sisters?! Vegas!!! That’s right I’m going back and I’m already super excited. Sometimes I just want to jump around and scream and throw confetti and rainbows because I can’t contain my excitement. Well maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but  I cannot wait to go back to Vegas. My last trip there was one of the funnest times of my life and this one will definitely be…wild to say the least. Just more gym and healthy eating motivation!

2. Chocolate Chip Cookies

Last week my sister made chocolate chip cookies. I ate two. The next day I get up and the cookies are gone. In bed I had planned to have a cookie with maybe some coffee…but nope. My dreams of that were dashed. This week she made oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and let me keep about 10! I had informed her last time of my disappoint to find zero cookies at home. Nothing is better than a homemade cookie!

3. Killin it at da gym

Monday weight training class our teacher showed us different chest muscle exercises and the form and equipment/machines to do them with. Then we went with our partners and found our overload something…however much weight we should be using.

Tuesday. My bed held me captive and didn’t let me get up to go run. So after class I went to the gym and hung out with the treadmill. I had a really great run. I was feeling sleepy and kinda moody before, but once I got started I felt a lot better. It was just one of those good fast paced runs where I didn’t really feel tired. Going to the gym after class was a good decision. And taking pictures in the gym is creepy when  it’s busy. That’s why I waited until I was away from the treadmills so other people wouldn’t see haha Our gym is super eye-appealing too. Don’t you wanna go run there? Yeah you probably don’t.

Wednesday. For weight training our teacher showed us different back exercises. I really liked a lot of those exercises.

Thursday. I got up and did sprinting intervals. This one by Sarah is what I’ve been doing for quite awhile.

Friday. I did the 3rd strength workout for BBB. I did the 2 other strength workouts on Monday/Wednesday morning before I went to my workout class. Overachiever. I know, I know. They’ve been making me a little sore the next day too.

4. Meal Prep & Green Monsters

For the second week in a row I’ve baked some chicken breasts, sweet potato fries, and roasted broccoli. MWF I dont go to my sorority house for lunch so I have to bring my lunch haha. It’s been nice having healthy food prepared and ready to go!

I had been going through a dry spell of not having green monsters. I’ve had a couple this week and forgot how yummy they are despite their unappealing appearance. I’ll be having more of these!

 5. Kittens

I have a new obsession with kittens. I don’t want one (I’d rather have a puppy), but I just love talking about them and finding cute/funny pictures of them. Meow.

I think the kitten purritors are sooo adorable! I just want to pick one up and snuggle with it. Maybe put it in my purse and take around with me all day. Awww kitten purritos too cute…hahahaha.

As far as my weekend plans go I really don’t have any plans. Just to have a nice relaxing weekend and enjoy hanging out with my friends! Oh, I guess the Super Bowl is this weekend too. It’s supposedly a big deal. My Mom’s family are huge Bronco fans so that’s who I’ll be rooting for!

Finding Words That Explain What I Can’t

Driving home from Sunday brunch with my friends, I couldn’t help but be filled with happiness. The past weekend I spent my time with people who bring so much joy into my life. Friends, sorority sisters, and others…It was a weekend filled with laughter and jokes and just some really good times.

So I don’t have a recap from the past week because honestly it wasn’t that thrilling. I was just getting back to the work/school grind and you really don’t want to hear about it. And I can’t remember enough about it to write on it.

I don’t even have pictures from the past weekend except from brunch. You can tell that food definitely takes a priority in my life.

Basically, the relationships I have and time spent with those people who are important to me have brought a lot of joy and happiness into my life. This weekend was a prime example of that.

Now I’m about to get really weird on this blog post, so prepare yourself or just turn away.

Many times I’ve read things that I think are beautifully written. I’m attracted to words to say the least. Words that make sense when they’re put together. You can see what they’re saying. You can feel what they’re talking about.

But when someone writes something that puts into words what you feel or felt or went through it’s like someone finally understands you. Granted that person hasn’t been in your place, but they’ve had an experience similar to you or thought of someone having those feelings. You can see through moments in your life what their words are saying. You know what they wrote perfectly describes what you saw or felt or are experiencing.

Lately I’ve been searching for words that work like that. Words that say what I felt or am feeling. Whether it’s in a song or a book or on Tumblr like the ones I found. And to be honest some of the things I want to see put into words must be pretty hard to come across because it’s a rare occasion when I find something that deeply resonates inside me like I found today. The picture below is one of my favorites that I read today, but its not one of the ones that hit me deep.

I know you are all probably wondering what it is I wanted to see expressed in words. What is it that I’m feeling or experienced that I want explained. The thing is I can’t explain it to you without letting you into a little section of me that is off limits. So unless you know the secret code, you’re not getting in. But don’t worry I’m not going crazy, psycho, or entering a stage of depression. Like I said at the beginning of the post I’ve been filled with happiness lately. Coming across someone who writes as beautiful as Tyler Knott also makes me happy.

Reunited & MLK weekend

Currently my life is pretty uneventful. I didn’t have school on Monday due to MLK day and I didn’t do anything noteworthy. Well I don’t have pictures anyways. Right now I don’t have homework I should be doing nor do I have  sorority events to fill up my schedule. Yet. That’s the key word.

The first week back has been a lot of fun and super laid back. Getting to be reunited with my friends has probably been the highlight. I really missed them. This semester will be bittersweet because for most of them it’s their last. Ahhh that makes me really sad. I can’t think about it. That will likely be a recurring topic on my blog I already know.

So a few weeks ago I posted about how I was going to try to start eating Paleo. Well the last part of break and so far at school I’ve been failing at doing so. There have been those rare occasions where I have though. After this weekend I think my body is a little upset with me. It does not want anymore cheese/dairy. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Here are a few Paleo-ish things I’ve been eating lately:

Eggs with spinach for breakfast. My new favorite breakfast at home. The key is hot sauce. I need to have hot sauce.

Sauteed chicken with boiled vegetables. Simple, but always good.

Protein pancakes. I love trying new ways to make a protein pancake and this one was a success! I made these for my sister and me one morning this weekend. I’ve been drinking hot water with lemon in the mornings. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know the answer.  (Yes, I know syrup is not Paleo nor is peanut butter.)

Recipe:

  • 1 banana

  • 1 egg

  • 1 egg white

  • 1 scoop protein powder

  • Dash of cinnamon

  • Drizzle of honey

Mash the banana then add the rest and mix well! I use a small skillet on medium heat with coconut oil in the pan. This makes about 2 medium sized pancakes depending on your skillet size too. I topped mine with peanut butter, strawberries, and tiny bit of syrup.

As far as my workout plan for this semester goes I have the 8 week plan for Best Body Bootcamp that I hope to do. It ends just in time for spring break. I loved doing it last spring and am glad I signed up for it again because this is the last time Tina is putting it on. I loved doing BBB because it really got me comfortable going to the weight room because I had a set plan and I saw great results from it.

I’m signed up to take a weight training class that a lot of my pledge class sisters will be in, but I’m not sure if I’ll stay in it. I was planning on doing my BBB workouts during that time. I really want to stay in it, but it messes up my morning flow and work schedule. I can’t be goin’ to class with wet hair and smelling like sweat and that would be frowned upon at work too. People do it, but I get too sweaty for that to be okay. So we’ll see.

Well I’m almost done at work for the day. I promise I had all my work and homework done before I wrote this up! I just have sorority meeting tonight and that’s it! I’ll leave you with a pretty quote below.
