WIAW: Albuquerque Edition

Buenos dias! Good morning! Today for What I Ate Wednesday I’m sharing the food I ate while on a weekend trip to Albuquerque to visit my girlfriends.

Peas and Crayons

I arrived in the 505 on Friday afternoon with an hour of time to kill before my friend got off work. So I went to Uptown shopping center which is right off the Interstate. I spent my time drooling over stores like Lululemon and Anthropologie. I also hit up the Trader Joes since I live no where close to one. I only got items that weren’t fresh nor would melt in my vehicle, so my choices were limited.

I picked up some Cookie Butter, coconut cookies, and coconut oil. I haven’t tried cookie butter before and wow is that stuff good! I don’t even know how to describe the taste.

For dinner we wanted something light and quick before we went out and so we decided upon Chipotle. When we walked in the line went through about half the building and I thought that was long. Supposedly it’s common for the line to be out the door because it’s one of the few in Albuquerque.

Our evening festivities began at Zacatecas with some margaritas and then the night rolled on from there!

After a night out at Nob Hill, we were ready for breakfast the next morning. If you are familiar with Albuquerque then you would know that the Frontier is a must-eat place at some point if you visit.

One of my ABQ girlfriends suggested we all try a cinnamon roll and man was I glad she told me to do that. So I had a cinnamon roll along with my breakfast burrito filled with eggs, hashbrowns, and green chile. I was one happy girl after breakfast.

Saturday we spent the day shopping at the mall and went to Uptown again. I had been wanting to find a kimono cover up with a cute print and I finally did at Charlotte Russe! At Uptown we into Francesca’s and I came out with this wild tribal print shirt and a faded gold monogram S necklace. I don’t know what got into me. Nothing I bought was black!

It was pretty hot in Albuquerque on Saturday so we grabbed some fraps at Starbucks. I got a mocha frap and a chocolate chip cookie. Definitely chocolate overload, but it sure helped us cool off. Next time I’ll choose one or the other.

After a full day of shopping and a pick-me-up at Starbucks. We were ravenously awaiting our dinner at PF Changs. Of course all 5 of us had to shower and get ready so by the time we finally arrived none of us were evening talking to each other due to being so hangry! And I didn’t get any pictures of the food because once it was out we inhaled it.

We ordered California Crab sushi, Spicy Tuna sushi, and split the Spicy Chicken and Mongolian beef entrees with rice. We were still hungry after dividing all of that up between the 5 of us, so another California Crab sushi appetizer was ordered. That finally satisfied us.

After another night out on the town we were ready for breakfast on Sunday morning. We all agreed on Weck’s.

I ordered the papas bowl with scrambled egg, hashbrowns, and green chile. They offered peanut butter with your pancakes so of course I had to get a pancake too. Too say I was stuffed after breakfast is being modest. The papas bowl was soooo good and the green chile was perfect! The pancake on the other hand was so-so. Good, but not life changing.

The leftover hashbrowns made an appearance on Monday morning at home for my breakfast with some sauasage and scrambled egg. Best breakfast I’ve made at home in a long time!

And that’s all I have for y’all today on my weekend eats in Albuquerque!

Do you like green chile? What have you been eating lately?

Thinking Out Loud #3

I’m linking up Running With Spoons for today’s Thinking Out Loud post.

This is my last day of work for the university, so I’m pretty pumped about that! The woman I work under took me out to lunch at an Italian restaurant and of course we had to grab some ice cream for dessert. Caliches is a local favorite and definitely has amazing ice cream. I got a Straw-anna which is vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and bananas. Needless to say this afternoon will be a struggle between taking a nap and staying awake.

In personal celebration for my last week I went by my favorite local coffee shop to get one of these babies. A whole wheat bagel with peanut butter. These monster bagels are delicious and just half of one fills me up.

Did graduation really happen a week ago?! Going to graduation made me excited about getting to graduate in December. I’m ready for it. And I decided I am going to decorate my graduation cap. There were a lot of people (girls I’m guessing) who decorated their hats and they stood out from the rest of the crowd.

Denim on denim. Fashion fail? Or is it okay? Lighter denim shirt with dark denim skinnies. I thought it worked.

You cannot pass up a good green chile cheeseburger and fries. For lunch on Wednesday the boss took a handful us out for lunch and I sure took advantage of a free meal, but once again the afternoon was rough with being so full.

I saw “The Neighbors” last night and it was pretty good. It wasn’t what I expected. I can’t even put into words what I expected. The only thing is it bothers me how movies like this make marriage and having kids appear like the worst thing you could ever do and that your life is over after that point. They did kind of make up for that vibe at the end of the movie, but still. No wonder our generation freaks out about the idea of “gettin hitched.”

Ooh but of course I enjoyed watching Zac Efron. His body is pretty hot I guess…actually it is. No guessing about it.

I’ve enjoyed going to the gym this week with not as many people as during the school year. Monday I did an arm workout and Wednesday I did legs.

As for the rest of my afternoon, I’ll hopefully go to the gym after work and see where the evening takes me. I’m going home for the summer on Saturday, so next time you visit I’ll be blogging from home!! Enjoy the rest of your Thursday everyone!!

Do you go out for lunch at work? What’s a good movie that you’ve seen lately?

Quick Trip Home

This weekend I made a surprise trip home to watch my little sister play her last official home basketball game.  I went to my one morning grammar class on Thursday and then headed to the good ol’ dirty Curry.

I definitely surprised my sister at her game (I think she got a bit teary eyed), but she made me a bit teary eyed when they recognized the seniors and she ran up and gave me a hug. The game didn’t go so swell, but I was simply glad I got to watch her play and to be back in my old stomping grounds surrounded by people I love.

Friday I went to town to run around with my mom and sister. We went to the mall for a bit and I was hoping to get some new clothes since I hadn’t while at school. I went into the dressing room at Dillard’s with 4 or 5 different dresses. None of them looked good. My sister tried on two things and both looked amazing on her! She doesn’t need anymore clothes. Anyways, she got a couple cute outfits and I ended up with a black lacy bandeau bra. At least I got something black.

Then my mom, sister, and I went to the movies and watched Safe Haven. I actually liked it! I haven’t read the book, but I figured since it was Nicholas Sparks that it would be all lovey-dovey and emotional. I won’t ruin it for anyone, but I liked it which I think the main man character in the movie contributed to the reason I liked it. He’s freakin hott. We enjoyed some popcorn and I had sour skittles. Sour skittles are my movie theater candy. I ate nearly the whole bag.

If that wasn’t enough sugar for the day, I went with my sister to Bahama Bucks to see a friend and the friends give Kenzee free drinks. She demanded I order something since I was on vacation. I went with a blended coffee drink called a Cocomel. I think it was blended coffee with coconut and caramel flavoring. All I know is that I was on sugar overload. Too much.

march 1 cocomelSince I had no real gym to go to this weekend I turned to YouTube for some great videos. I warmed up with 5 minutes of high knees, jumping jacks, and various other “pump up my heart rate” moves. Here’s the playlist I did.

Saturday I was wide awake at 7 am! I just stayed in bed until 8 reading “The Secret Garden” and then I made some protein pancakes topped with strawberries, peanut butter, and a side cup of coffee.

I sat around in the kitchen and talked with my Mom. Then I ventured outside to take some pictures. Here’s a few untouched.

My Dad and I went to town for lunch and went to Twin Cronnies. I got a green chile cheeseburger and it was great!

Later on Saturday my mom and I went to town to try shopping one more time. It was a little more successful, but nothing to take pictures of. I got two black shirts (go figure) and found some black wedges at Dillards pictured below. Sadly the ones I tried on had a green mark on the cork that wouldn’t come off, so they better have my size in black in perfect condition at the Dillard’s in Cruces. Or else….I will have to order them online.

Saturday night I just hung out with Mom and Dad. I broke into the chocolate chip cookie dough. It was quite enjoyable. Basically, I had some potential plans, but being on the brink of 21 sucks. All of my friends are turning 21 now. You will hear this pity party up until I turn 21 in June. Sorry bout it.

Today I head back to the LC. My parents and sister are taking me to Roswell to meet my boyfriend. We “car pooled” together. He came home with me Thursday and then went home on Friday morning. So anyways now I’m going back for the last few crazy weeks of March before spring break then I’ll be home once again. Lastly, I’ll leave you with a Sunday morning quote.
