Summer 2014 Goals

Summer. Images of sunshine, tan lines, and iced coffee fill my mind. Entering the beginning of my summer break I always have lofty hopes and plans for what I want to do and accomplish during this time. So I’m sharing my goals for summer on the blog today!

1. Try Crossfit

I’ve been itching to give Crossfit a try for 2 years now! I live in a pretty small town, so before there weren’t many places to do Crossfit. Now there are a few gym options that I’d like to try out and hopefully fall in love with to do Crossfit this summer.

2. Give Paleo another shot

Over Christmas break my Mom and I decided to try eating Paleo. Well it worked well for a few days and for a couple of meals, but basically we failed at it. I’d like to really try to do Paleo again and I think I can if I set my mind to it and be disciplined about it. Of course I won’t eat Paleo all the time, but I’d like to eat with the Paleo rules in the back of my mind.

3. Grow my blog

I really want to focus on really taking my blog to new levels. I want to blog consistently. I want to make a new blog design and seriously look into becoming self-hosted. I want to connect with more bloggers. I just really want to see where this blogging thing can take me.

4. Photography

Photography is a hidden passion and hobby of mine. During the busy school year sometimes I would rather just be at home than go out and take pictures. This summer I want to be consistently taking pictures daily/weekly. I also want to get published in a magazine.

5. Read

I love, love, love to read. However, as many college students can likely relate, I don’t get to read what I would like during the school year. Of course being basically an English major I do get to read many novels for class, but Shakespeare isn’t always what I would prefer to read. I have several books on my “To Read” list and I hope to make a good dent in it.

6. Cook/Bake

If I want to be serious about eating Paleo that means I’ll need to be doing more cooking! I decided during my last attempt at Paleo that I wasn’t giving myself enough time to prepare for it. I think Paleo is very doable if you have time to cook. I also enjoy baking and would like to try several healthy recipes that many of my favorite bloggers have come up with.

7. Faith

During this past school year I know I didn’t focus on building and strengthening my faith like I should have. This summer I’ll have a lot of time to myself to work on healing things that haven’t and making God more of the priority that he should be in my life. With student teaching to come in the fall and the question of where I will be going after December, I’ll definitely need to rely on my faith for strength and as a source of direction for my life.

I may have a few more additions to add to this list later on, but for now these are my major goals. I hope everyone is having a marvelous Monday!!

Christmas ’13

Once again Christmas has come and gone. I look forward and anticipate the Christmas season all fall. Then in a flash it arrives and disappears.

To many people Christmas is celebrated for a variety of reasons. The core reason I celebrate Christmas is to recognize and reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ. Of course I get caught up in all of the materialistic aspects of Christmas along with the magic that comes with this season and forget about the reason for Christmas. But I’m so thankful God sent his son to this earth to die for my sins.

When I think of Christmas memories of time spent with my family fills my head. Once again this year my memory is full from this Christmas spent with family. I believe we ate at my grandparents house 5 nights in a row. Basically we spent a lot of time there. I am beyond blessed to be a part of my family and am thankful for all the time I got to spend with them.

This post is not well organized to be honest and doesn’t even bring justice to what we did over the 5 days, but I like it this way.

I made sugar cookies for my contribution to the meals we had throughout the past few days. They turned out to be pretty tasty.

One of the traditions we have is that my Mom always monkey bread for breakfast on Christmas Morning. It was delicious!

Now for a look at some of my favorite Christmas gifts.

I FINALLY got a North Face jacket! I love it. I also love the tribal sweater my mom got me and more red/black/grey shirts.

My favorite workout/fitness related gifts were my new yoga leggings, Nike sports bra, and Nike pro capris. Plus a couple of good magazines to read.

These are the random things I got that I’m happy about. “The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis” is a book that my practicum teacher had this semester and one day I read several excerpts from this book and added it to my Amazon book wish list. My Mom ordered us a personalized monogrammed coffee cup. She picked the perfect colors. Lastly I’m obsessed with my Juicy Couture Le Fleur perfume. It smells heavenly.

My plan for today is just to be lazy and do absolutely nothing. Well except I’m going to find some kind of workout to do later. It’ll take awhile to counteract all the eating I’ve been doing. And then I’ll get back to watching my new Netflix obssession: Mad Men.

As for Christmas of 2013 you were a good one! Now it’s time to look toward the New Year!

Oh Heyy…It’s November!

Hello blog world!

It’s been wayyy too long since I’ve last posted and it makes me really sad. I can’t believe it’s November and my last post was towards the end of September. Sorry October you were just too out of control for me to blog about.

My life has just been super hectic with school, work, sorority stuff, and life in general this semester. This weekend has been one where I’m finally getting some time to myself and I’ve truly enjoyed it.

There are an innumerable amount of things I would love to blog about, but I’ll stick with recapping my life with pictures (only a few). To be honest I’m a little overwhelmed by this post I don’t know where to start or when to stop or what to include or leave out, but here it goes!

I’ve gotten to see my parents a few times since I last posted. Seeing them is always refreshing and rejuvenating. I’m so blessed to have the parents that I do. They support me and encourage me in everything that I do.

I am madly in love with my friends and the senior year we are having together. I hope it’s not weird to use the phrase “madly in love” in reference to my girlfriends, but I do truly love them and the fun we are getting to have with one another. The picture below isn’t the best, but it really represents all of the joy and laughter we have being together.

I’m ready for this semester to be over. It’s a rough one. I enjoy my classes, but they just keep me busy. There’s always something I could be working on. It’s never-ending.

Working out and eating healthy has been a challenge like it always is. Some weeks I’ve had to skip a few workouts and have definitely slacked on eating healthy, but it happens to the best of us. At the same time I’m just continuously learning about what I put into my body and how it affects me. More on that at a later time.

I’ve gotten to take pictures on the field for two of our home football games this semester. I’m in love. Shooting sports, especially football, is really hard and I definitely have a big appreciation to sports photographers. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time.

In the midst of this chaotic semester sometimes I forget to take a moment to breathe and just to reflect on how blessed my life is. I’ve made some decisions that I’m not sure how they’ll impact my future, but I just have to hold on to my belief that God has a plan for me that is better than anything that my crazy little blonde brain could ever imagine.

So these next few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break I hope to take some time to myself to allow my soul to be refreshed and renewed. Hopefully, I’ll get to return to this little space I have in the blog world to write again, but obviously that’s a challenge.
